Sioux Falls review

Sioux Falls is the story of a young boy named Kota from the American Indian Dakota tribe. Set in an alternate history timeline, Kota witness the murder and execution of his family, spared by the actions of his older brother Kota grows up to seek revenge for his family’s death.
His hot-headed ways change the course of his life as he almost dies from his actions. This story is a heroes journey similar to Highlander with an American southwest steampunk twist. Kota even gets a mentor to guide him along this new path.
The story: is similar to other hero journey stories but I think it has enough original material to carry it through and be enjoyable. I like the addition of the translated native languages that the writer leaves for us along the way. Rather than all characters speak English we get a mix with translation and it helps to bring the reader in on the side with Kota. I give the story a solid 4.
The Art: is pretty good by indie comics standards, characters are on model and well rendered. Colors are decent, the light and shadows are well done. I give the art a 4.5
Readability: Sioux Falls reads very well, panels are clean and there are no risks being taken with the flow of the story. A very solid 4
Potential: Hard to guess how successful this book could be. The story may not appeal to some, at first glance its a “white man bad” although the story tells us that there are some good, we haven’t met those yet. And yes it is a story that has been told before, but not really with a native American audience.
Potential I give a 3.5
Overall this was a good read. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for alternative history fiction or someone who supports quality indie books. If you’re “a mainstream superheroes” only type this probably won’t float your boat.
